COEFI and LAMB
Diane Cotton,
the Executive Director for the Latin American Montessori Bilingual
(LAMB) Public Charter School served as mistress of ceremony at the
relocation site for the school's new permanent home, the Military
Road School at 1375 Missouri Avenue in Washington, DC. She
graciously thanked the Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC) for organizing
the many volunteers. BMRC was established in 2002 by the Greenbucks
Foundation and launched in the summer of 2005 with the mission of
motivating young people in the United States to get involved, connect
with their communities and become part of a large youth movement
for social change. BMRC has spearheaded over 100 volunteer projects
in Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and
Washington, DC.

COEFI assisted LAMB
by clearing a vacant lot behind the school that was overgrown
with weeds, shrubbery, fallen trees, and trash. The lot will
serve as the new playground area for the 100+ students admitted
to the school this fall. Other volunteers cleared the yard
in front of the building and others were inside the building
with the professional electricians and carpenters helping
to paint the walls and ceilings.
About LAMB
The Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public School was
chartered in 2001, and is the only dual-language Montessori
public school in the Washington metropolitan area and one
of only a few nationwide. LAMB just began its third year of
operation, but draws from the rich history of its founding
agency, the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), which celebrated
its 30th year of incorporation in 2004 to include providing
lunch for the BMRC volunteers.
