Terry G. Owens, President and CEO
Lieutenant
Colonel Terry Owens graduated from Hampton Institute in 1987 with
a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She earned a Master of Arts in Elementary
Education from Hampton University in 1990. In 1987 she enlisted
in the Army Reserves as a Combat Medic assigned to the 18th Field
Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1990 she was commissioned as a
distinguished military graduate and a second lieutenant on Active
Duty through Hampton University’s Army R.O.T.C. Program. She
has successfully served in numerous positions of responsibility
most notable include Ambulance Platoon Leader in the 708th Main
Support Battalion (Mech) 8th Infantry Division, Bad Kreuznach, Germany,
Treatment Platoon Leader and Battalion S-2 Officer, 123rd Main Support
Battalion, 1st Armored Division, Dexheim, Germany, Battalion Adjutant
of the 21st Combat Support Hospital and Bravo Company Commander,
61st Area Support Medical Battalion, 1st Medical Group, Fort Hood,
Texas, the Medical Center Brigade Personnel and Executive Officer,
Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., Team Commander
for the Northern California Heath Care Recruiting Team, 6th AMEDD
Detachment, Fairfield, California, Medical Corps Branch Assignment
Officer and Chief of the Personnel Services Branch, Health Services
Division, U.S. Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Virginia
and Troop Commander and Chief of Military Personnel, Ireland Army
Community Hospital at Fort Knox, Kentucky. She is currently assigned
as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel Services (DCSPER) at
the 30th Medical Command in Heidelberg, Germany and recently completed
a year deployment in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Owens has shared her time and talents as an elementary
school substitute teacher in the Department of Education, Phenix
Hall at Hampton University from 1988-90. She has served as a mentor
and speaker with the City of Alexandria Office on Women Community
Education Programs dedicated to empowering women and their families
by promoting equality, safety and access to opportunities and services
through advocacy and education. She has been a Brownie Troop Leader
and volunteer with The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria that is committed
to helping academically qualified, financially needy students at
T.C. Williams High School to afford post secondary education. She
is also a volunteer member-at-large with The Reading Connection
(based in Arlington, VA) which is a literacy outreach program for
children living in shelter crisis. Lieutenant Colonel Owens is a
member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Order of the Eastern Star
and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She and her
husband Raymond have one daughter, Courtney who is the namesake
and inspiration for the foundation. They reside in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
